Sometimes you wake up and you just feel sad. Today was one of those days for me. I woke up and maybe it’s because my dream was sad, but I felt so low. This is how you can figure out how to feel better on a bad day.
We all have those down days. You woke up and this time you didn’t jump out of bed with all the energy and zeal of a little child ready to carpe diem! (Okay maybe not all that energy, but still, you’re feeling a bit meh). Some days I faceplant on my pillow immediately after waking up. It all just feels a bit … grey. Granted, maybe it’s raining early in the morning.
Some days, your daily affirmations seem to not work. You’re pleading with yourself to gather up some happiness and just try for the next few hours. I know the feeling all too well. So, how do you get happy on a down day? It might be easy with a few tweaks to your daily routine.
By the way guys, if you have depression, please talk to a mental health professional. These sad days might be a sign of depression.

7 Ways to Feel Better on a Bad Day
Getting happier means taking some meaningful steps towards feeling better about yourself. How can you do this? Well, keep reading!
1 | Music
Nothing gets me into a better mood quite like some music. Lately, I’m obsessed with country music. Something about driving in a jeep in the country just lifts my spirits. Dancing is very good for you, too. So turn the music up and give me some Alabama Shakes, baby!
2 | Notice what’s going right in your life
In order to figure out how to feel better on a bad day, be grateful. Look around you and see what is going right for you. Take a few seconds to make a list of things you are grateful for. I have a post on How to Be Grateful. You would be surprised to find out how easy it is to be grateful, and how immense the benefits of gratitude are.
3 | Take a social media break
Social media might be your number one order of business for the day. However, today, you should take a break. It might be bad for your mental health to go on Instagram and scroll through the thousands of seemingly perfect people out there. This is not good for sad days. In fact, you might want to read about Why I Quit Social Media and What I Do Instead.
4 | Eat well
It’s no secret that food has the power to make you feel better. Be sure to invest some thought into what kind of food you’re reaching for. Go for the healthier foods that won’t make you feel even worse by the time you finish. Sometimes that grey feeling at the start of the day can be banished with some juicy nutrition hitting your system. This will help you feel better on a bad day.
5 | Get some movement in
I’m obsessed with squats lately. I mean, who wouldn’t be? It’s a great toning exercise for the booty! Sad days need some exercise. You need to get rid of the stagnant energy collecting in your bones. Do some yoga! Yoga makes sure to shake up your chakras, and give you that boost in happiness that you need. If you need any yoga help, here are 10 Easy Yoga Poses for Any Level of Practice.
6 | Journal
How to feel better on a bad day? Journal! Journaling is the perfect way to take a dive into your mind and figure out what’s going on. There is nothing like quiet contemplation to make you realize the source of your discontent. Writing down your feelings will help you to be aware of what your inner being is trying to tell you.
7 | Meditation
I know that people don’t really like hearing about meditation. That’s because they don’t know how to do it and it doesn’t really work if you don’t know what you’re doing. I don’t really know how to meditate on my own. That’s why I use guided meditation videos on YouTube. I will post one down below so you can get your feet wet. I’m trying to build a daily meditation practice because of how good it makes me feel. Meditation has helped me to establish this connection with my inner being that I could have never imagined.
