In this post, I will be talking about the relationship between foods for studying and studying/concentration.
One day, I was feeling really lazy to study. I couldn’t concentrate, and certain topics were difficult to grasp. That’s not all. I was feeling sluggish and unmotivated. The crazy part is that my exams were starting the next day. I really needed to get studying.
I told my sister about it, and she asked me if I had eaten. Well, I hadn’t.
I went and had some healthy and nutritious food. This energized me and I started studying with passion.
That’s my experience on how eating brain food for studying can improve concentration.
Why concentration is important when studying
It’s easy to find your attention wandering while you study.
Do you stare at your screen for a few minutes before snapping out of it?
Or read a line over and over again because you can’t seem to understand it?
These are all caused by a lack of concentration.
Having concentration allows you to be sharper while studying.
You will save time by reading faster. You will also have time for your other pursuits, and this creates a healthier lifestyle.
Why food helps in concentration while studying
Sometimes studying gets hard. That’s when I consider eating food, or hydrating. There is a definite connection in nutritional science between food and concentration. Food is fuel for the body, including the brain. If you don’t fuel your brain, it will lead to brain fog, lack of concentration while studying, and laziness.
What is the best food to eat while studying? Let’s stick to healthy study snacks.
5 Foods that Improve Memory and Concentration While Studying
Here are 5 study snacks that will improve concentration while studying. Consider the food-brain relationship while you eat these foods. They contribute to boosting cognitive function.
· Nuts
I swear by nuts. Did you know that walnuts are brain-shaped? Walnuts boost brain performance. They contain high amounts of DHA, a type of omega-3 fatty acid. This is important for brain function. Be sure to have some walnuts and almonds. Soak them for one hour so they are easy to chew. They are good examples of foods that increase concentration while studying.
· Avocados
Another great brain food for studying exams? Avocados contain a boatload of potassium. Potassium helps to send more oxygen to the brain, which lets it do its job better. That sounds like something you want when studying.
· Bananas
Bananas are also bursting with potassium. Also, they are a quick and easy study snack. Nicely chop one banana and drizzle some peanut butter on top for a tasty treat. Bananas make for the best study snacks.
· Green tea
Green tea is a good choice if you need a caffeine boost. I don’t like drinking coffee because I get stomach cramps. You can also try a fruity blend of tea. The caffeine in tea makes you alert.
· Fresh fruits
Fresh, organic food is great for improving concentration while studying. They are the best healthy study snacks. Choose fruits you like, so that you can enjoy your study session. Pineapples, apples and pears are good options.
Other factors that affect concentration while studying
Foods help to improve concentration while studying, but there are other essential factors involved too. Consider incorporating a few lifestyle changes in order to boost concentration. Here are some factors that affect your concentration while studying:
· Sleep
Sleep is an essential part of a student’s life. Getting 10 hours of sleep is a great idea. Try not to stay up watching movies, but invest in resting your brain at night.
· Breaks
Hunching over your books is not ideal. Staring at your laptop? Even worse. Take a break every 25 minutes. A break is as simple as standing up and stretching, or closing your eyes. Consider massaging your shoulders to release tension.
· Mental health
Mental health greatly contributes to your studying progress. If you feel depressed, you might not feel like studying. Doing self-care activities such as journaling and meditation can help you get into a better mood. A good mood helps you study better.
How to improve concentration while studying
· Turn off your phone
When I sit down to study, I make sure that my phone is on Do-Not-Disturb. I turn off my wifi so that I don’t receive notifications. I try not to open my phone “just to see if anyone messaged me”. Be strict regarding phone usage while studying.
· Quit social media
Social media causes our brains to be on a dopamine rush 24/7. Everything else feels boring in comparison. Studying gets harder because it has no immediate gratification. Consider quitting social media in order to improve concentration while studying.
· Use different study methods
I’ll admit that studying gets monotonous after some time. Reading all day seems boring. That’s why it’s important to spice things up once in a while. Try studying using a different method. Here are some study methods that you can check out:
