Twitter? Ugh. Instagram? Double ugh. I HATE social media. It makes me feel absolutely awful. I appreciate that about myself. I’m honest with the fact that I find it hard to maintain my mental health when I browse through social media.
The best days of my life are days when I never go on any social media and enjoy the real beautiful world in front of me. Tragically, the world today revolves around social media. Had a healthy acai bowl? Great, Instagram it. Someone wore the same shoes as you? Rant about it on twitter.
SOCIAL MEDIA HAS ME QUESTIONING MY SELF ESTEEM
I barely use social media. In fact, I deleted all my personal social media accounts a long time ago and I save my sanity by never browsing through people’s supposedly perfect lives. It makes me question my own self esteem. Over the past few years, I’ve worked to boost my self confidence and to focus on my own self growth. All this can go down the drain with a few seconds worth of scrolling.
SOCIAL MEDIA IS MOSTLY DECEPTION
Another reason why I hate social media? Social media is filled with falsehood and insincerity. People FaceTune the hell out of their pictures and the weak-minded people gobble it up. (I was one of the weak-minded people, feeling depressed over the ethereal beauty of influencers on IG.) Camera angles, lighting and photo-editing can change the very appearance of a person to show a healthy, vibrant, size zero looking model.
I snapped out of these lies when I started realizing how people were propagating utterly FAKE photos to the masses. In fact, it’s the very influencers who admitted to using a little bit (whole load) of Photoshop or FaceTune here and there. After seeing them release the secrets of trade to the unknowing followers, I decided that I could not believe such lies anymore. Some people have the audacity to pinch their waists so tiny that it looks unreal. Umm, hello? Why would anyone want to advertise FALSE body proportions?
SOCIAL MEDIA RUINS MY MENTAL HEALTH
I hate social media because in general it just ruins my mental health. It’s a combination of the fake lives and the sheer volume of information that does it for me. Imagine seeing posts and reading tweets from 100’s of people in a day. This can cause you to feel insubstantial in the big blue world. In addition to that, it can cause you to question your own place in this world. Are you worthy of it? Do you deserve all the best things life has to offer?
You see people who are living their best life. Going on vacation, enjoying luxury brands, and looking like Cleopatra or whatever. And yet, here you are, living a regular old life. Why did you get the life that you got? The thing is, the grass is always much greener on the other side. People are showing off amazing things (that probably don’t even belong to them) and yet they probably have a whole load of problems that they aren’t displaying for all to see.
SOCIAL MEDIA CAN DEPRESS YOU
Social media is not for the faint of heart. You can get sucked into the cycle of doom that requires you to flaunt your blessings for all the world to see. You can get sucked into depression because of all the cool things that people on your social media are doing.
SOCIAL MEDIA WASTES TIME!!!
You’d be surprised by how much time I get from not using social media. I use it for productive things, as well as to heal and explore my soul and being. I love to write. I love reading books as well and I think reading is a great alternative to scrolling through social media.
I explore and experiment with activities that could be a perfect fit for me. Some of my hobbies include; painting, journaling, working out, exploring healthy recipes, and watching interesting documentaries, films or TV shows.
Quitting social media, or at least taking a break once in a while is extremely important for mental health. You can further read about me quitting social media in this post : Why I Quit Social Media and What I Do Instead

Yes, I 100% agree with all of this! I had been off of all social media for a year and got back on for a couple of months only to realize, yet again, how terrible it is. It makes me feel awful and also less connected to the important people in my life than when I don’t use it. I have a great life and am super blessed and, somehow, social media manages to strip me of almost all of my gratitude. Definitely instills FOMO and FOMO is the death of all things good. Trust me, I know from experience. If I could erase a good majority of the things from my mind that I have seen on social media that compare myself with, I would in a heartbeat.

Yes!! I do not suffer with friendships, family, career or FOMO by having deleted every single social media account. I am happier, less stressed and know who my true friends are. It’s so freeing. More people need to get back to real living. Social media is a pestilence.

I hate it for many reasons. Like texting, it’s lazy, unemotional and detached but even worse it’s where weak people think they are tough. Want to sit down and have a normal conversation in person? They hide, vanish like women do with ghosting where things get too real or tough for them to act like a human being. Both Auckland are pathetic.
Bad for your mental health and to be perfectly honest if makes you dumber. I know mental faculties well as I work there, It’s so much worse online than in real life. Funny thing is, at least out in the real world, people of ill health have balls and talk, online they act, lash out and hide.
