When I was younger, I was always so afraid that I didn’t know how to be grateful. I thought it was a magical feeling which would bring more into your life. I knew this because, as early as 8 years old, I’d been introduced to The Secret, and The Law of Attraction.
I felt frustrated because I didn’t know how to be grateful. Sometimes it felt like a chore. Giving gratitude to me meant truly sitting down with everything going on in your life, and conjuring a feeling of absolute, unbridled happiness. A magical, splendid feeling of love and contentment.
Now I know I was wrong. Sometimes I still feel like being grateful means having some kind of magical ray of sunshine emanating from me. Here’s the thing: why should being grateful have to be such a difficult thing to do? It’s not. It’s as easy as noticing what’s right in your life, and saying than you.

There are so many methods on how to be more grateful. I have compiled a list of ways you can express gratitude, and one of those is through writing. This is why I created a free downloadable worksheet to help you to be more grateful. It prompts you to write down one single thing that you are happy happened to you that day. I call it “The Highlight of My Day”. It helps you to keep track of the best thing that happened to you every day. It can replace journaling, and you only have to write one for one day, every month.

Notice what’s right in your life
This is the easier way to learn how to be more grateful. Just start noticing the good stuff. A little acknowledgemnt of the nice things in life. Gratitude is so easy, that it’s hard to believe this is all you have to do! What’s more, doing such a tiny thing has immense benefits. It’s a great antidepressant, and this means it’s great for mental health. This is science!
Let go of lack
There is a difference between thinking that you won’t want for anything anymore, and overall just thinking that your life has so much missing from it. I know this first hand. I figured that if I don’t desire anything in life, it would make me seem more grateful. That’s not it. In fact, it increased my scarcity/ lack mentality. The opposite of this is just feeling that everything you have, is enough for you. Stop visualizing gaps in your life that need to be filled. Imagine that your life is full, and filled. This is one method on how to be more grateful.
Heal your childhood mentalities
A lot of us are certified pessimists. Myself included (or at least I used to be.) We might have had difficult childhoods, or in general grown up with parents who are not grateful. We don’t have to remain with the mentalities that we grew up with. Once we decide to change our minds, we begin to change our lives. Our lives will be highlighted by the good, and not the bad. It’s okay to let go of your negative nature and begin to notice the little good things in your life.
