In this post, learn how to study in college.
These are some tips that help me to study in college. They sound simple, and they are! However, they give you an added edge to your studying and grades, should you decide to employ them in your daily routine.
When I started college, I told myself that I was going to my best. I gave myself a pep talk. I committed to studying well and getting awesome grades. I made the intention to study and understand everything in my classes, and to be at the top of the class.
Intention matters a lot. Set out your intentions. They give your brain a picture of where you want to go. It just sits there at the back of your head, seemingly dormant, but all your decisions are influenced by that seemingly useless intention.
So, without further ado, here are 5 ways to study in college.
How to Study in College
Keep reading for a few simple but effective tips to learn how to study in college.
Study a little every day
This tip saved my life in college.
I was never a studious student in primary school or high school. In high school, I just studied last minute. In primary school, I just kind of understood everything so I didn’t need to study.
When I got into college, I committed to studying every single day. To be honest, being in college was exciting, and I had my own independence to make my own choices. Now that I didn’t have to be forced to study, I found it easier to study.
I studied every night before bed, and I actually liked it.
Find study partners
Study partners are essential in college. Find people that take the same classes as you and study together with them. That way you can discuss amongst yourselves about the things you might not be good at.
Don’t forget that explaining something to another person really helps to remember things better.
Experiment with studying
There are so many different ways to study – not just the study techniques that you know and use. Experiment with the time you study. Being in college is great because you have some level of freedom to just experiment with studying.
How to Study Using the PQRST Method
Nighttime or day time? Stay up or wake up earlier? You have enough energy (and independence) to ruin your sleep cycle and fix it in order to find out what works for you.
Try not to study last minute
Last minute studying probably worked for high school, but it just doesn’t cut it for college. You have to make sure you are conversant with the topics you are dealing with. You can’t expect to get decent grades from last minute studying in college. Make sure to study all your notes at least 3 full times.
Pick out courses that you actually like
The awesome thing about college is that most of us get to choose what we want to study. Make sure your diploma or degree is something you are at least 20% okay with. Make sure it is something you enjoy.
If you make the decision yourself, you have that advantage of actually enjoying a study session.
Study in College
My final advice to part to you is just – Study in college. Don’t be the person that doesn’t study at all haha! Study a little every day, and make sure that you actually enjoy what you are studying, because it makes everything a lot easier.
