I spent the whole of last night just… being upset at myself.
I have this tendency to get disappointed in myself whenever someone does me wrong. I feel like, how could I have put that much trust in them? Or, maybe if I had done something different, they wouldn’t have hurt me.
And the pain of putting the burden on myself hurts a lot.
I tried to work out this morning but I was too upset to.
But I knew it was in my hands to fix my mood. There are 2 ways to stop being upset. The first is to reason things up, and the second is to distract yourself and make that circumstance trivial to you.
If you are upset, try to use logic and reasoning to make yourself feel better. Given them the benefit of the doubt. Tell yourself that it wasn’t that bad. Or tell yourself that you don’t care or it doesn’t matter.
To be honest, reasoning my situation out wasn’t helping me. I mean, I know that whatever somebody does to me is on them. How someone treats me is not in my control. But that just wasn’t stopping me from being upset.
So I knew I had to do some emotional damage control and fix up my mood.
Here are some suggestions as to what to when you are upset.
10 Things to do When Upset
1 . Yes to routine
Sometimes you just have to put yourself back into routine to get back into the regular groove of doing things. Routine helps to put your mind out of your misery.
2 . No to routine
If routine just isn’t working for you, switch things up. Do more, or do less. Go outside or stay inside. Do things you don’t usually do. Wear clothes you don’t usually wear. Try out something new. Explore new music or movies.
3 . Work on something
This is something that helped me a lot today. Instead of worrying about something I didn’t want to think about, I decided to work on something beneficial to myself. It made me feel really good, like I was more important than anyone else who could hurt me.
4 . Listen to your favorite song
Sometimes all you need is a little pick me in form of a song you love. Go ahead and do a dance party or a karaoke and sing at the top of your lungs. It might make you feel better.
5 . Watch a movie
Movies are the ultimate way to escape reality for a while. If you’re like me and like to watch Guardians of the Galaxy over and over again, go for it. Watch your favorite movie. Or watch one you’ve never seen before. Transport yourself to a different world.
6 . Time out
Take a break from everything and just lie down and close your eyes. Take a moment to relax and try to shut out any negative thoughts. Be kind and gentle to yourself.
7 . Move your body
When I say move your body, honestly, I don’t mean work out. But maybe I do? Haha. Sometimes all you need is a little cardio to get your blood warm and take your mind off stress. Maybe you need a walk. Walks are therapy! Maybe you need to do some dancing.
8 . Soothing shower or bath
Did someone say water therapy? Showering using your favorite bath products might be just what you need. Soothe your body and therefore your mind.
9 . Talk to someone
I know a lot of us actually hate unloading on other people. But yesterday I talked to a friend and felt better for it. Sometimes you just need your best friend to talk crap about the bad guy so you can all laugh.
10 . Comfort food
When you are upset, you aren’t feeling great. What you need is some comfort food to make you feel a little better. Think of the foods that taste really good and cook, order in! This might help you to feel less upset.
So, there you have it! 10 things to do when upset. Try out each of these 10 things and you just might find one that helps you. Think of these as coping mechanisms. It always works best when you have the intention to feel less upset while you do them.

I’m sorry your feel upset, hope you feel better now thought! Whenever I’m upset about something I often feel like I can’t be upset since its not a nice feeling to have, but I’ve found that just allowing myself to be upset about whatever it is helps. It’s almost like me saying to myself, “hey you feel sad right now and that is a completely valid response, now go eat your ice-cream and watch rom-com movies” 😅
