What determines a good night’s sleep?
I believe that a good night’s sleep is influenced by a healthy and soothing nighttime routine.
Incorporate soothing activities into your night to promote relaxation and set the mood to wind down.
Being mindful and intentional with your routine helps you to be more in tune with your mind and body.
9 Healthy Nighttime Routines for a good night’s sleep
1 . Quiet bedtime contemplation in candlelight
These days, I try to look inward more. I want to understand the language of my soul. This is why I create time to sit in silence and just listen.
It can be very difficult to observe your thoughts and honor them as they pass by, but this is what I try to do every night.
Nighttime anxiety affects a lot of people. One of the ways I cope is to honor my thoughts and engulf them in pure acceptance.
This helps me to drift off into sleep in a peaceful mood.
2 . Nightly calm TED talks
Watching or listening to TED talks is a great way to end the night.
TED talks have this ability to inspire people. They also educate you and give you more knowledge and information. It’s way better than listening to the news.
TED talks might be a great morning activity if it doesn’t work for you at night, so give it a try either way.
Listening to one or two TED talks at night can give you a little something to ponder on while you fall asleep. Here is a great TED talk I watched last night:
3 . Soothing shower with skin care
One of the best things I did for myself recently was to get myself a body scrub. Previously, I was using a homemade olive oil and brown sugar body scrub and the feeling I’d get from using it was ah-mazing!
I went the extra step and got myself a store-bought product and it’s honestly awesome.
Warm soothing showers or baths can help you to relax your muscles and prepare your body for bed.
4 . Stand-up Comedy Specials
I am currently watching Nanette by Hannah Gadsby. Standup comedy can give you the laughs you need to relieve stress and tension from the day.
They are a great way to relax the mind and drift off to sleep.
Give it a try and see how it works for you, and maybe it can have a permanent spot in your nighttime routine!
5 . Journaling
Journaling is honestly an awesome tool for introspection.
It can help you to figure things about yourself that you had no idea about. Journaling doesn’t have to be anything extreme. It can be as easy as one or two lines about the highlight of your day.
However, when you open the dams of your mind through writing, I doubt you’ll limit yourself to just 2 lines!
6 . Relaxing aromatherapy
Treat yourself to soothing and refreshing smells by turning on your essential oil diffuser, or light a scented candle.
Relax and bask in the smells. Essential oils like lavender and peppermint can boost relaxation and help you to drift off to sleep.
7 . Nighttime sleeping tea
Another way to create a good night’s sleep is to have some warm sleeping tea.
There are loads of teas that boast a good night’s sleep, and I’d definitely recommend you get yourself one.
Making tea a part of your nightly routine can provide a new way to appreciate the nighttime.
8 . Self-massage to relieve tension
Self massage is a good way to work out the knots and aches in your muscles.
Rub your hands all over your body to promote blood circulation to your skin. You can also knead and massage your neck ad shoulder muscles, as well as your calf muscles.
A good foot massage is also relaxing and promotes a good night’s sleep.
9 . Peaceful ambient music
Set the mood for the night by playing some music to inspire winding down the day.
Peaceful Max Richter piano can help with relaxing your mind. Spotify has a great collection of ambient music that can be played for a good night’s sleep.
