Study Habits to Study Better at Home
The first step to study better at home, is to give you some practical habits that you need to incorporate into your daily lifestyle, to give you that boost of motivation to study better at home. They are:
1 – MAKE YOUR BED
I know, I know, what does making your bed have to do with studying? Hear me out: When you make your bed, you are starting your day right with a good dose of productivity. It means you will program yourself to do the right thing. Trust me, making your bed will give your day a great start!
2 – TRACK ALL YOUR HABITS OF THE DAY
This is one of my favorite habits for productivity. Ever since I started writing down my habits in a notebook, I find myself being more productive. I know that I have to write down the activities that I do every day, complete with time stamps. That motivates me to study at home.
3 – CREATE A TO-DO LIST
If you don’t create a to-do list, you are probably going to spend the entire day watching TV shows. Writing a to-do list is your way of setting your intentions for the day. It makes sure all the activities you do are a deliberate attempt at success.
4 – TAKE BREAKS
Studying non-stop is not usually a good idea. That is, if you’re not studying last minute. If you are, all the luck to you – keep going! It’s great to study for a long time, don’t get me wrong. In fact, there’s this girl on YouTube who has a video of her studying for 14 hours in one day! The thing is, if you want your study session to be more effective, it needs breaks sprinkled in between.
5 – BOOST YOUR MOOD
In addition to taking more breaks, be sure to treat yourself. I like to enjoy some music to uplift my mood. It always works. I reserve calming music with no singing for when I’m in a study session, but if I’m seriously jamming out, I’ll go for pop music. Boost your mood by having a coffee break in your fave mug, or watch your favorite YouTuber in order to take the seriousness out of the day.

Study Tips to Study Better at Home
The second topic we must cover is the most important one of them all. How exactly does one study? What are the study tips you must use? These are the answers to your question: How can I study better at home?
1 – ORGANIZE YOUR NOTES
The first step to studying better at home is to organize the notes you are planning to study. Arrange all the topics that go together. Get out your personal notes, your textbooks or any past test papers that you have. Write down all the topics and subtopics that you plan to study. This will give you a mental layout of all content you have to study.
2 – MEMORIZE FACTS
Most of studying is pretty much memorizing information. Unless of course, you’re studying Math, in which case you need to practice. Learning how to retain loads of information by memorizing is ideal if you want to remember stuff in a test or exam. I like to do rote memorization with a little bit of understanding sprinkled in.
3 – UNDERSTAND THE TOPICS
Life can’t be all about memorizing stuff! That would make school an institution for testing who has the best memory. There are things that you need to sit down and properly understand. Be sure to google any words or phrases that don’t make sense to you. Read all about a topic. Go on YouTube and watch videos. This will ensure that you are going to completely understand what you are working with. Chances are, you will never forget something that you took the time out to actually get.
4 – WRITE OUT QUESTIONS
Wanna know how you can study better at home? Create questions from your work.
I love to make up questions to help me remember better. I have this theory that I was really good in primary school because all I had to do was remember answers to questions. When I advanced to high school and college, things got a bit sticky. I had to learn to write essays. But I learned to incorporate question and answer style studying into my routine. All I do is create questions out of my notes. Of course, there are also the chapter-end questions, or the past exam questions, and these work too.
5 – MAKE IT FUN
Let’s all admit it – studying can get mind-numbingly boring! That’s why it’s good to spice things up once in a while. Making studying fun can mean busting out your colorful markers and putting your calligraphy skills to good use. You can also spice things up by using flash cards. Make infographics online! The list is endless.
6 – REVIEW YOUR NOTES
Reviewing your notes is one of those highly effective habits that sadly not a lot of people do. Reviewing means going back and reading through content you have already studied. You have to keep reviewing over and over again, at least 3 times in one study session. Reviewing is the best way to keep your knowledge fresh and ready to go.
Study Mindsets to Study Better at Home
This is part 2 of the question: “How can I Study better at home?”
This is the mind part. How do you get your mind to focus? It’s all about the mindsets and the drive. This has nothing to do with actually studying, but with how to hone in your intentions and motivations.
Here are the study mindsets you need to study better at home:
1 – LITTLE HABITS COMPOUND UP TO GIVE YOU SUCCESS
This is something we all know, but never really give much thought too. Ever since I read Atomic Habits, I’ve learned that it’s the small stuff done every day that add up to great success. It’s great to tell yourself that you will now study for 14 hours in one day. But you need to be realistic. You’re someone who studies the night before – or dare I say, the morning before an exam.
You’re a chronic non-studier. I don’t mean to judge you, but there is no way you are going to make a lifestyle leap that extreme. You can start by studying the notes from your class immediately after your class. If you maintain this for long enough, you will get huge results.
2 – ALWAYS USE POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS
How can I study better at home? Be sure to give yourself that motivational talk.
Studying is a pretty huge task. It’s easy to give up or get caught up in racing after goals without catering to the mind aspect of it all. You need to praise yourself after every study session. You need to believe in yourself. You need to say affirmations. Here are some examples:
- I always get good grades
- I’m a straight A student
- I believe in myself
- I always remember what I studied
3 – SET GOALS AND ACHIEVE THEM
Another mindset that you need when studying is to actually set goals. Start small and grow bigger. Your first goal can be to study every single day, no matter how small. Set goals such as getting high grades. Set more study-oriented goals. Promise yourself to practice questions more and more. Set goals to climb up your position in class. Goals always have this way of firing us up so we can get to where we truly want to be. That’s why setting goals is important.
Study Motivation to Study Better at Home
This is the final step in figuring out: How can I study better at home? Here is where I tell you what your mind needs to hear so you can get off your phone and go study. Here is where I’ll be the tough coach you truly need. Keep reading:
1 – STUDYING = SUCCESS
It’s obvious. If you study, you’re going to know more, and you’re going to get better grades. The results are absolutely granted. If you do flexibility exercises, no doubt you’re going to get more flexible. There are things in life that are a given. If you study, you pass. That’s why you should think twice about not studying; because you are sacrificing future grades.
2 – YOU CAN REST ALL YOU LIKE IN THE HOLIDAYS
If you’re studying for finals, remember that you can rest all you like in the holidays. It’s now time to hustle through. Think of all the peace and joy you will feel knowing that you did your best and you don’t have to regret anything. You owe it to yourself to give studying your all.
3 – SLOW BUT STEADY WINS THE RACE
Remember what I said about small habits giving the biggest results? Be sure to stick to one small and easy habit for a long stretch of time, and that is the one habit that will get you the true achievement that you truly desire. Quit going for instant gratification, and learn to appreciate the slow-burn of life.
