Learn how to bust studying procrastination in this article.
What is procrastination? If you are a student, you have experienced procrastinating to study. You think you’re going to study, of course, but right now? Umm, no. Maybe later.
You know you will study but you know it won’t be right now!
“Maybe later” is what causes students to go to bed without studying.
According to this study, procrastination is brought about by three things: hating the task in front of you, the question of that task’s reward, and the time delay in getting that reward.
So, that is why I decided to come up with a list of study tips for procrastinators. Sit back and enjoy the ride!
5 Ways to Bust Studying Procrastination
Here are my 5 guaranteed ways to avoid procrastination. The first two are the ones I use the most, and they are very effective all the time!
1. Promise to study for only 20 minutes
My magic number for studying is 20 minutes. It’s not too short like 5 minutes, and not as long as an hour. I promise myself to study for only 20 minutes, and this perks my brain up. Only 20 minutes? I can do that! And my brain gets to work.
Of course, sometimes I lie to my brain and 20 minutes turns in 2 hours. It’s all about that original promise.
2. Start up a stopwatch
If there is one tactic I recommend in this list, it’s this one. I swear it works. Start up a stopwatch (not a timer) on your phone and keep it out of sight. Now begin studying. The first time I tried this, I ended up studying for 40 minutes!
Something about the stopwatch inspires some competitive spirit within you to see how far you can go. You keep studying for as long as you can before actually checking to see how much time you took.
3. Pomodoro to bust procrastination to study
The Pomodoro technique is not new to a lot of us. However, it is greatly efficient and works all the time. What you do is: create short bursts of productivity and then give yourself a break. Example: I will study for 5 minutes, take a break of 5 minutes, and then get back to studying for 5 minutes.
This is a great tool for productivity, and it can be the thing you need to avoid procrastination.
4. Create a reward system
The brain works on connections. It forms patterns based on past experiences. That’s why you need to create a pattern of rewarding yourself after studying. It’s like how they train little puppies; if you be a good boy and sit, you get a treat.
When your brain connects studying to rewards, studying becomes easier. It’s a great way to hack the brain.
5. Take breaks while studying
Studying for long hours without breaks might be the reason why you experience procrastination in studying. Your brain groans whenever you think of studying. Because studying seems like long, boring work.
That is why I suggest taking more breaks while you study. I know it seems like such a non-issue, but trust me, taking breaks can be that one thing you need to do in order to avoid procrastination.
Bust that procrastination for studying!
Use these 5 tips to bust procrastination to study. Procrastination makes you feel like you will “do it later” but later can turn into never. That is why you have to do whatever it takes to go ahead and start studying no matter what.

Hey Laura, I’ve updated the article to include a study that shows that procrastination is brought about by three things: hating the task in front of you, the question of that task’s reward, and the time delay in getting that reward. If you can work through these issues, you are well on your way to busting procrastination to study.
