My Depression Story
Everyone’s story is unique.
Depression doesn’t even have to start with some traumatic event in your life. It just… happens.
I know there are so many of us out there who are really suffering from depression and it breaks my heart to know that you, too may be dealing with this.
LIFE CAN BE SO MUCH BETTER WITHOUT DEPRESSION EATING UP OUR VERY EXISTENCE.
I’m not writing this as some get-well-quick scheme. I don’t even really know how I cured my depression. Sometimes, it just sort of happened – I felt better because somehow somewhere my mind let go. I still can’t fully process the mindset shifts that happened to me to protect me from bad stuff happening to me.
Sometimes it’s like my mind was tired of all the sadness and weakness, and decided to make me feel a bit better. I feel like some things are just beyond our control.
On the other hand, of course, I did some active research into what could help me.
And the truth is, it all started when I decided that if I was going down, I might as well go down with a bang. I felt like the worst had happened to me, and it was time to live like I had nothing to lose. That’s when I decided to take the chance on ME.
I decided that I was going to give it my all. I still remember that day. I figured that it was finally time to do something about how murky my mind and thoughts were.
I’m going to say it again – I don’t mean to make you feel bad that you didn’t do anything about your depression or that what you tried didn’t help.
I also want to tell you that sometimes I think I made it up. I guess I have some sort of impostor syndrome and I don’t believe I am worthy of depression. I feel like people out there have it worse than me.
How I Cured Myself from Depression
In addition to seeking medical attention, I have compiled a list of techniques that you can incorporate into your life. Using them in your life can really help you feel better. Below are 6 ways on how to cure yourself from depression.
1 | Seek professional help
Go to therapy. There is no shame in finding healing from someone else.
Professional therapists are a great way to deal with depression. They are equipped to help you to cure yourself from depression. They are able to help you to discern the root causes of your depression.
Therapists are there to help you figure out how to help yourself. They don’t do the most of it – you do. Of course, I’m not saying they don’t do anything. They just teach you how to do what you must to heal yourself.
Therapists can also prescribe medication that can help you feel better when you are feeling depressed.
2 | Friends and family
If you’re depressed, you might feel like a burden to ask for help from your friends and family.
I know how it feels to feel so alone and detached from your family. I’m barely close to my parents or my siblings. I used to think they hated me. I mean, they made sure to seem like it.
When I went to college, I found some people who seemed like good friends, and they kind of made life better for me. Maybe you can hold out that hope that you will meet nice friends.
If you don’t feel like confiding in your family or friends directly that you are depressed, you can just ask to hang out or talk to them on the phone. This can help you feel loads better.

3 | Exercise
Exercise can help you to cure yourself from depression.
First of all, it’s a great way to let off steam and induce happy hormones called endorphins. Also, it makes you feel accomplished. It makes you feel like you’re actively contributing towards improving yourself.
It also makes you feel better about your body. Exercise helps you to get fit and healthy. This can in turn improve your mental health.
Exercise makes me feel like I am showing up for my body. I think it’s a great way to subconsciously let myself know that I am willing to work to make myself feel good and healthy. That I am willing to put in that effort.

4 | Meditation
I know you might hate to see meditation on this list. Don’t worry, I did too.
I’ve been unsuccessfully trying to meditate since I was a kid. I still don’t know how to meditate. But here’s the secret on how to meditate: Guided Meditation Videos on YouTube.
Meditation is so important for learning the inner workings of your mind. Meditation is the best way to strengthen your mind, and your thoughts. Depression gives you horrendous thoughts, right?
Meditation just helps you to get a grip on your thoughts. It makes you strong enough to know that you are in control of your thoughts. I mentioned that one day I decided to try for once to choose myself. It was hard to be positive. It was so hard to let go of my negative thoughts and replace them.
But when I started using guided meditation, things started changing for me. The landscape of my mind began to change. I can’t explain exactly what happened, but all I know is that it became easy for me to actually believe in positivity.
In order to improve your state of mental distress, you should try out meditation and yoga. Meditation is a great way to work out the mind. It’s a great way to organize and understand your thoughts. Yoga can also help you by making you mindful of your body. Yoga has always been known to improve mental health.

5 | Try out new things
To me, being happy for the rest of my life means that I should try new things always.
When you think of being happy for the rest of your life, what comes to your mind?
It’s time to start thinking into the future, 5, maybe 50 years from now. I know that depression makes it impossible to think about the next day, let alone the next year.
Depression can make it hard to try out new things. However, you have to be willing to discover new ways that can help you cope. You can try out new activities, learn about new things and find new hobbies. Also, you can try to meet new people who might make your life seem better and help you to cope with depression.
When I think of all the cool things I can try out in the future, it kind of makes me feel a bit better. It probably sounds stupid to you if you’re depressed, but we just need to focus on those tiny things in life.

6 | Positive Affirmations
Positive affirmations have been one of the best concepts to stop depression.
I’ll admit—even though I was on a journey to beat depression, I never really felt that a day would come when I would never think any depressive or suicidal thoughts.
Positive affirmations made it easier for me to focus on cultivating a better, happier, and more positive mindset. Every time I have a negative thought, I try to counter it with a positive affirmation.
