Poor concentration is a regular problem with students everywhere. Sometimes you are ready to empty your textbook contents into your head, but other times your brain says no.
So, for these moments, what is one to do?
That’s why today I am writing about 5 study tips to beat poor concentration.
Remember that the baseline should be: Something is better than nothing when it comes to studying.
Forget about perfectionism or trying to finish all your studying in one go. I suggest you try to get over that need to be perfect when studying. Go slow, go easy, but keep going.
Without further ado, here are 5 study tips to beat poor concentration.
Study Tips to Beat Poor Concentration
Try out these 5 things every time that you can’t concentrate when studying.
Pomodoro technique
You can add your own twist to the pomodoro technique. But first, what is the pomodoro technique? It is a method of productivity where you have short bursts of intense productivity (usually lasting 5 minutes,) and then you take a break. And repeat the cycle.
If 5 minutes is too short for you, try 15 or 20 minutes. For me, 20 minutes is the perfect amount of time to get my productivity boost on.
Dopamine detox
Dopamine detox is a pretty trendy topic in my sphere of influence. It is a way of reducing the stimulation that your brain is exposed to. Some recommendations I have for you to wean your brain off dopamine stimulation is to get off social media for a while and to focus on other forms of entertainment.
This causes the brain to come back to a normal level of stimulation. When you do this, studying gets easier because you don’t have time to think about checking out Instagram and twitter.
Another way to reduce dopamine is to exercise. Exercise causes a better release of dopamine; a higher quality dopamine.
Foods for concentration
In order to beat poor concentration, make sure you have had a nutritious meal and be sure that you hydrate. Sometimes I’m not in the perfect mood to study; but when I eat something, I get the energy I need.
In addition to that, you can eat certain foods to boost your concentration. Such foods include: nuts, avocados, bananas and the like.
Routines
If you are having trouble with concentration, a great thing to do might be to create a strict routine. Routines always work. I write at the same time every day, and it has done wonders for me. I might not be in the mood, but I will always get to my work table at 2pm every day, without fail.
I did it enough times for a habit to form, and these days if I don’t follow my routine, I feel off.
That is why I suggest creating a specific time in your day to study.
Effective study methods
The next thing I want to talk about is having a study method. A lot of us go through school without ever really committing to one study method. Sure, you sit down and read, but you need to find a study method that works.
I have written a few posts on study methods, and I invite you to check them out. You might find one that will revolutionize your studying.

Hey Kevanee,
Thanks for leaving a comment! I see you 🙂
We live in this age where it’s so normal to be addicted to social media apps. We fail to truly live in the moment. I think that’s one reason why it gets difficult to study. The brain is constantly buzzed on dopamine, and that makes everything else boring.
I stumbled on this blog post via Pinterest and I’m glad I did. All of your tips are super helpful and insightful! I love the Pomodoro technique, its a great way to prevent burnout and feeling overworked! 😊
Love your all your blog post!
