What to Do When You Feel Depressed
Here are my top 6 tips on what to do when you feel depressed:
1. Watch a feel-good movie
When you feel depressed, chances are you don’t want to engage in any physically-challenging activities. Transport yourself in an alternate world by changing a movie or a tv show. Stay away from content that can make you feel bad.
2. Read a good book
If you’re more of a book person, pick out a great book. It can be fiction or non-fiction. Read books that distract you from your state of mind. Save hard copy books for times like this. I find that reading digitally can be hard when you feel depressed.
3. Listen to music that lifts your mood
Listening to music takes no energy. Music is capable of changing your mood, so play some calming music that lifts your spirit. You can also listen to podcasts and get sucked into whatever you’re listening to. This will distract you from your current mood.
4. Talk to people who make you feel better
Talk to your friends or family. You don’t have to tell them you’re feeling depressed. A lot of people are happy to talk about everything and nothing. They can distract you from your state of mind.
5. Eat healthy
Eating fruits produces serotonin in our bodies. Serotonin is known as the happy hormone. Eat whatever fruits you can find because they have the ability to boost your mood. make yourself a fun smoothie or a fresh juice to help you feel better.
6. Meditate
Meditation is a proven method to improve your mood. You can meditate in any position. Make sure to breathe nice and deep and monitor your thoughts. Don’t fight against yourself, merely acknowledge every passing thought. You can also play some calming music while you meditate.
