Let’s face it – studying in high school is hard. The good news is that even though you hate studying in high school, it doesn’t mean you will amount to nothing.
As teenagers, we have a lot going on in our heads. And that is completely normal.
We’re growing. Our brains are developing. The thoughts inside are crazy. But it’s alright.
It’s okay to be struggling in school. That doesn’t make you a dumb kid.
Why Studying is Hard in High School
1 . It’s hard to focus
High school is the beginning of a new chapter in your life. It’s when you begin to grow and develop.
You don’t have to have everything together.
You don’t know where you want to be or what you want to do. And that’s okay.
It’s hard to study in high school because there are so many things going on in your life and you don’t know how to choose the important things.
2 . There is so much to study
High school is designed to help you figure out what you are interested in.
Do you like biology? Maybe you can be a biologist.
Maybe you like art a lot and you can be a great painter.
There are so many subjects in high school and that makes it a bit overwhelming to study.
Remember that the system was designed to expose students to as many subjects so as to narrow down what they are interested in.
3 . So many distractions
There are so many distractions in high school and that makes it really hard to study.
Think about it – you have to juggle yourself, your friends and your family.
You have to keep up appearances so everyone thinks you’re cool.
You have to maintain your emotions so your family doesn’t remind you of your “teen angst.”
This is one of the reasons why studying is hard in high school.
4 . You don’t know what you want yet
If we are being really honest, you don’t have your life figured out yet.
Things are all over the place. You don’t know what you want out of life yet. You know how much there is out there that you haven’t got to experience.
This is why studying is hard. Life is hitting you from all these different angles and you never have a chance to just breathe.
5 . You want to fit in
I’m adding this here because this affects a lot of high school students.
High school is where you really feel the need to find your tribe and fit in. You want to fit in.
Whenever you’re with the cool kids, you see that they don’t really study.
But that’s not true. Just because you don’t see them study doesn’t mean they aren’t!
Fitting in shouldn’t be about being like the cool kids that never study.
